Biography

Ranjana is a general surgeon who trained in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

He is currently the head of the Department of Surgery and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ruhana.

Amongst his many appointments Ranjana is also the Medical Course Coordinator at the Kotelawala Defence University, Faculty Representative for Board of Study in Surgery, the National Body controlling the profession of Surgery in Sri Lanka, and the current chairman, Board of Study in Emergency Medicine, for the Post graduate Institute of Medicine.

He has been extensively involved in the development of emergency medicine in Sri Lanka and is the the current President, Sri Lankan Society for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine.

Ranjana is a military surgeon and works with Sri Lankan Army Medical Corps as a volunteer. In this role he has extensive experience in dealing with trauma and disaster medicine during the Sri Lankan Civil War and after the Indian Ocean Tsunami.

He has interests and is multiply published in general surgery and orthopaedics, trauma, resuscitation medical education, bedside ultrasound, disaster medicine, and military medicine.

Ranjana has been multiply awarded for his service to medicine and his country.

He has a keen interest in cricket and captained the University of Ruhana team during his student days.
