Biography
Shane is an Emergency Physician based in Wagga Wagga in Rural NSW Australia .
His interest in Emergency Medicine in Sri Lanka stems from an initial visit as part of a group of FACEM’s just after the tsunami.
There he met the fledgling Sri Lankan Society of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine(SSCCEM) who expressed an interest in the Emergency Life Support course from Australia.
With some funding from ACEM and as part of ELS international the adapted ELS course in Sri Lanka i.e. the Emergency Life Care course (ELC) has now been conducted 12 times with over 250 participants and local instructors having been trained.
Shane holds teaching appointments at the University of NSW and Notre Dame clinical schools in Wagga .
He has been Director of the ED in Wagga and is currently developing a district wide education strategy for 23 ED’s in his rural health district.
