Biography
Maala is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine) at the University of Ottawa and Director of Emergency Research at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
She received her medical degree from McMaster University in 1996, completed her pediatrics residency at Dalhousie University in 2000 and Emergency Medicine fellowship at McGill University in 2004.
Maala also completed a Master’s of Science in Epidemiology at McGill (2008) and a certificate in Improvement Science from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (2014).
Maala is passionate about improving care systems to optimize patient outcomes.
Her primary research interest is in the safety of emergency department procedural sedation however she has published on a variety of topics common to pediatric emergency medicine including pain management, procedural sedation, appendicitis, asthma and bronchiolitis.
While not working, Maala enjoys travelling, running, skiing, yoga and being outdoors with her husband and 2 little girls.
